Women’s Soccer falls in SSAC play on the road

PULASKI, Tenn. (September 28, 2023) – The Point University Women's Soccer team returned to the pitch at Tennessee Southern for an evening Southern States Athletic Conference matchup. The Firehawks of Tennessee Southern would rout Point by a score of 12-1.

 

FIRST HALF

Just 34 seconds into the match, Tennessee Southern's Maclani Michael opened the scoring with an assist from Nao Katamoto and Marina Nawa. Tennessee Southern continued their aggressive play, and by the 35th minute, they were leading 5-0. Goals also came from Marina Nawa (who netted two and even assisted herself for one) and Hikaru Uchida. Miran Sakai provided two assists while Maclani Michael bagged another. Point's Alexa Collins was booked with a yellow card at 32:46. Throughout this half, Tennessee Southern showed dominance with 15 shots and 6 corner kicks compared to Point's 0 shots and no corners. Point's goalie, Kelly Rowland, was kept busy with multiple saves.

 

SECOND HALF

Tennessee Southern started strong with Miran Sakai scoring a goal at 47:45, assisted by Nao Katamoto. The team's dominance continued with two penalty goals from Marina Nawa and Nao Katamoto by the 57:51 mark. Hikaru Uchida and Jessica Glassman further added to the scoreline with assists from Jessica Glassman and Kamilia Tayebi, respectively. Point finally responded at 82:53 with an unassisted goal from Hannah Delp, making it 11-1. However, Tennessee Southern's Kenzie Shelton added another goal at 89:50, sealing the match at 12-1. Point's Marina Queiroz received a yellow card at 84:03. The second half saw Tennessee Southern taking 19 shots with 6 corner kicks, while Point managed just 2 shots and a single corner.

Tennessee Southern's impressive 12-1 victory highlighted their control and dominance in the match. Point's defensive efforts, especially from their goalkeepers, were commendable but couldn't stave off the relentless attack from Tennessee Southern.
