Nawa Scores Three, No. 12 Firehawks Sink Skyhawks

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern women's soccer squad scored their fastest goal of the season beginning the rout of Point 12-1 on Thursday.  

#12 UT Southern (8-3-1, 3-1) scored five first half goals and denied the Skyhawks a shot in the opening 45 minutes. Maclani Michael scored from the Nao Katamoto and Marina Nawa assist 34 seconds into the match. Nawa would score next in the 10th minute. Michael would add another in the 12th minute. Hikaru Uchida would net the fourth Firehawk goal in the 23rd minute. The final first half goal would occur on a penalty kick by Nawa in the final 10 minutes of the half.  The Firehawks led in shots at the half 15-0.

In the second half, UT Southern would pour on 19 shots and score seven more goals. Again, the Firehawks quickly lit up the scoreboard scoring in the 48th minute. Miran Sakai got things started giving Katamoto her second assist of the match. Nawa completed a hat trick in the 57th minute on the Firehawks' second penalty. One minute later, Katamoto would find the net on a third penalty in the match. Uchida scored her brace goal in the 69th minute. Jessica Glassman would make it 10-nil in the 71st minute. Katamoto scored her second goal in the 82nd minute. A couple of minutes later, Point (1-6-3, 0-3-1) would find the net off a penalty to draw closer at 11-1. Kenzie Shelton added a final minute goal to match the Firehawks' ranking with 12 goals. UT Southern would lead in shots 34-2 and hold a 23-2 shot on goal margin.

Layken Stockstill (8-2-1) didn't face a shot in under 12 minutes, and Hallie Cherry would allow one PK goal with one save.

The Firehawks will host Life at Grissom Pitch on Thursday, October 5. The SSAC match will kickoff at 4 p.m.
