Boling announced head coach of women’s golf; new era to begin Saturday

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 8, 2021) – The Point University women's golf team swings back into action on Saturday and will be competing this season under new head coach Gregory Boling.

"I am really excited for the women's golf team as Greg takes over a team that will be one of the most improved in the conference," Athletic Director Alan Wilson said. "Greg has an excitement about him that will permeate through his players and is a perfect fit for Point University. His love for the Lord is evident each time you talk to him.  With his previous experience and with the recruiting class coming in, I know that the future will be very bright for the Lady Skyhawk golfers."

Boling joins the Point athletic department after serving as an administrator for Lenoir City High School, in Lenoir City, Tennessee, for 15 years. He has experience coaching golf at the middle school and high school level in Lenoir City and played collegiately at Freed Hardeman.

"I have always aspired to coach at the next level and having the opportunity to coach at Point is a dream," Boling said. "I am thankful for Coach Wilson's faith that he has entrusted me with."

Season preview

The Skyhawks will be kicking off the fall portion of their season by hosting the third annual Fall Skyhawk Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, at the Point University Golf Club in Lanett, Alabama.

"The tournament I'm looking forward to the most is our own tournament," Boling said. "The main reason is that Faulkner University is coming to play. My oldest daughter, Kayland, is the head coach there. It will be fun to go head-to-head with her. She has always one-upped me on the golf course, and I'd like to see if we can change that."

The Skyhawks will travel to Palm Harbor, Florida, following their home tournament to compete in the Invite at Innisbrook Sept. 27-28. Point will play two tournaments in October, first the Redhawk Invitational in Athens, Alabama, Oct. 5-6, and will finish the fall season at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship in Adairsville, Georgia, Oct. 25-26.

"We discussed in our first team meeting about this season's goals," Boling said. "First and foremost, we are going to act Christ-like on the course, we are going to maintain a team GPA of at least a 3.25, and we want to compete for the conference championship this spring."

The Skyhawks are returning five ladies from last year's team and have six incoming golfers. Boling says he is expecting the incoming class to make a huge impact for the team this season.

"I am looking forward to building lifetime relationships with all my players," Boling said. "In the first couple of weeks I've been here, the team has welcomed me in with open arms. I am so excited to work with these young ladies daily and help them to develop both as golfers and as women of Christ."
