Point Softball falls to UT Southern in a road SSAC Sweep

PULASKI, Tenn. (Mar. 23, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to action for a road Southern States Athletic Conference Matchup against the University of Tennessee Southern where the Skyhawks fell to the Firehawks in a sweep with Game One's final score being 10-2 and Game Two's Final score being 8-1. 

Game One (10-2, Loss)  

The Skyhawks opened the top of the first inning with Skye Loftin adding a single up the middle. Tia Coleman followed with a single up the middle which followed with the Skyhawks loading the bases as Savanna Bryant was hit by a pitch. The Skyhawks were unable to add any runs to end the first inning. The Firehawks were able to add their first run from a sacrifice fly to lead 1-0. UT Southern added two runs in the second inning from a double to left center which helped advance a runner for two runs. Point added their first run as Caylee Quarles added a single to left field which advanced Tia Coleman home. UT Southern added four more runs in the bottom of the third inning. As UT Southern added their last run from a homer, the Skyhawks were able to score their second run as Mackenzie Diaz advanced home. The Firehawks took Game One in five innings with a final score of 10-2. 

Game Two (8-1, Loss) 

Point added their first run as Tia Coleman advanced home to bring theirs to 1-0. The Firehawks responded with a home run down the left-field line to take the lead with a score of 2-1. UT Southern continued to build their lead as two RBI singles added two runs. Ramsey Clark opened the top of the sixth inning with a single through the left side. The Skyhawks looked to add another hit but a double play and a putout at first ended the inning. UT Southern added two doubles and a single which helped add four runs to bring the score to 8-1. The Skyhawks opened the top of the seventh inning with a single from Savanna Bryant but Point would be unable to add another run to end the game with a final score of 8-1.
