Gilbreath and Lindsey Both Homer, Firehawks Rout Skyhawks in Series Sweep

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern softball team scored 10 runs over the first four innings of game one to set up a Southern States Athletic Conference sweep of Point on Saturday. The Firehawks rolled the momentum to an 8-1 win in game two of the series.

GAME ONE

Kassidy Davis hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Hayley Parrott. UTS led 1-0 after one.

Parrott doubled to left center scoring Kaley Ezell. Sydney Self scored on an overthrow by the Skyhawks. UTS led 3-0 after two.

In the third, Point would score one to draw closer to the Firehawks. UT Southern would add four runs to pull further away. Hayley Barnes would reach on an error scoring Hannah Lindsey. Stella Gilbreath doubled to left center scoring Barnes and Davis. Self reached on a fielder's choice to left field. Gilbreath scored on the play. UTS led 7-1 heading to the fourth.

Gilbreath launched a deep drive over the left center fence scoring Davis and Lindsey. The Firehawks led 10-1 heading to the fifth.

In the final inning, PU would score one run but ran out of outs.

Davis tossed the complete game earning her sixth win of the season. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits.

GAME TWO

Point got on the scoreboard their lone run in the second. PU led 1-0 after two innings.

In the third, Lindsey lasered a two-run shot out of Royce Hughes Field scoring Parrott. UTS led 2-1 after three.

In the fifth, Lindsey singled to second scoring Hanna Hill. Barnes singled up the middle scoring Allie Toone. UTS led 4-1 after five.

In the bottom of the sixth, Parrott doubled to left driving in Gracie Braden. Toone double to left scoring Parrott and Hill. Barnes singled through the left side scoring Toone. UTS led 8-1 after six.

Gilbreath tossed the complete game earning her fourth win of the year. She allowed one earned run on four hits.

NEXT UP

The Firehawks will close out the SSAC weekend with a twin bill against Faulkner tomorrow. The Firehawks and Eagles will start the festivities at two p.m.
