Point Softball swept at the Gulf Shores Invitational
GULF SHORES, Ala. (Mar. 2, 2024) - The Point University returned to the field nonconference matchups at the Gulf Shores Invitational where the Skyhawks took on Williams Baptist University in Game One and Texas A&M University-San Antonio in Game Two. Point fell to the Eagles 8-0 and dropped Game Two to the Jaguars with a final score of 2-0.
Game One vs. Williams Baptist (8-0, Loss)
The Eagles opened the game in the second inning with multiple hits to load the bases. The Skyhawks looked to get out of the inning but a walk sent the first runner home for their first run. Point looked to respond at bat but pop-ups and flyouts ended the inning with Williams Baptist holding the lead at 1-0. The Eagles opened the third inning with a home run down the left-field line to increase their lead to 2-0. Williams Baptist would allow just one hit from the Skyhawks while the Eagles finished the game in five innings by adding six more runs to take the game in run-rule fashion.
Game Two vs. Texas A&M-San Antonio (2-0, Loss)
Hannah Phillips opened the game with a single to give the Skyhawks their first hit but the Jaguars were able to not allow another hit in the first inning. Point held Texas A&M-San Antonio to zero runs and had one left on base as both teams remained scoreless until the fifth inning. In the bottom of the inning, the Jaguars opened with a single which was followed with their first run after the error from the catcher. The Skyhawks went cold at bat to finish the game while the Jaguars added a second run to end the game with a final score of 2-0.
