Skyhawks come up short on the road

PULASKI, Tenn. (September 28, 2023) – The Point University Men's Soccer team returned to the pitch at Tennessee Southern for an evening Southern States Athletic Conference matchup. Tennessee Southern would come out with the one-goal victory by a score of 2-1.

First Half

The game kicked off energetically. Tennessee Southern's Rostand Essomba put his team ahead with a goal at 10:10, assisted by Carlos Diogo. Point didn't trail for long, as Nolan Barton equalized, finding the net at 14:46, thanks to an assist from Zane Whitehead. Several fouls marred the half, with Point's Isaias Zamudio-Facio and Jacob Illmer receiving yellow cards at 24:43 and 41:25, respectively. Despite several shots from both sides and a corner kick for Tennessee Southern, the first half ended in a 1-1 tie.

Second Half

The intensity only increased in the second half. However, a significant turning point came at 58:30 when Tennessee Southern's Carlos Galan scored via a penalty kick, putting his team ahead. Things grew more challenging for Point when Hwijun Cho received a yellow card at 60:37 and was then shown a red card just under three minutes later, leaving Point with ten men on the field. Tennessee Southern tried capitalizing on the numerical advantage, putting in multiple shots and corner kicks. Point fought back bravely but couldn't level the scores. The game ended with Tennessee Southern ahead, 2-1.
