Essomba and Galan Power UT Southern Past Point

PULASKI, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee Southern men's soccer squad scored a goal in each half in an action packed SSAC match winning 2-1 over Point on Thursday.  

UT Southern (6-3-1, 1-2-1) took the early lead in the 11th minute. Rostand Essomba buried a shot into the net from the Carlos Diogo pass. Four minutes later, Point (0-7, 0-4) would level the match at one. The Firehawks led in shots at the half 7-5.

In the second half, both teams continued a torrid physical match. UT Southern would be awarded a penalty in the 59th minute. Carlos Galan would rocket the ball past the Skyhawk keeper to net the eventual game winner. Things began to get feisty in the 61st minute, that began a stretch of five yellow cards, one was a second yellow that led to ejection. The Skyhawks had a couple chances to square up the match, but playing a man down proved difficult. UT Southern would lead in shots 25-9 and hold an 8-1 shot on goal margin.

Michael Anderson (1-0) would allow one goal in a complete game effort.

The Firehawks will host #18 Life at Grissom Pitch on Thursday, October 5. The SSAC match will kickoff at 5:30 p.m.
