Volleyball falls to the Toppers in a sweep in SSAC Play

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 6, 2023) - The Point University Volleyball team returned to action for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Blue Mountain Christian University, where the Skyhawks fell to the Toppers in a 3-0 sweep. 

Set One (25-15, Loss) 

The first set saw both teams trade scores to seven until the Toppers went on a 5-0 run to bring the score to 12-7. Point responded with three scores as the Skyhawks took advantage of three errors by Blue Mountain. The Toppers' offense started to pick up the pace by taking the next four scores to lead 16-10. Tianna Kynard, Jadakate Judkins, and Claire Cordell took the following three scores for Point, which saw the Skyhawks trailing by three. Blue Mountain would only one more score from Point as the Toppers took the 25-15 win in the first set. 

Set Two (26-24, Loss) 

The second set had a duplicate start to the first, with both teams trading scores to fight for the momentum. As Point was down 19-15, the Skyhawks fed off the energy in West Point Gym as Claire Cordell and Sameily Marquez added kills, followed by errors from the Toppers, resulting in the Skyhawks taking a 20-19 lead. The Toppers returned the favor with a kill and an attack error from the Skyhawks to regain the one-point lead. Tianna Kynard and Paige Lowe timed the block perfectly to help Point get their next score, followed by an error from Blue Mountain. With the score tied at 22, Jadakate Judkins added a kill, but the Toppers regained the lead with two straight kills. The attack error gave the Point next score, but Blue Mountain would hold on to win 26-24 in Set Two. 

Set Three (25-13, Loss) 

Blue Mountain opened set three on an 11-3 run, which carried the Toppers throughout the set with attacks and capitalizing on Point's errors. Aaliyah Lobendahn and Tianna Kynard helped slow the Toppers down with two kills. Blue Mountain continued to push their pace to a different level by pushing their lead to 12. Point would add a kill from Jadakate Judkins and a service ace from Paige Lowe to bring their deficit to 10. Blue Mountain allowed only three more scores as the Toppers finished the match in a sweep. 

In the Box 

Aaliyah Lobendahn led with seven kills, and Jadakate Judkins followed with six. Sameily Marquez and Claire Cordell contributed with four on the evening. Jordan Palmer, Claire Cordell and Sameily Marquez each led with 11 digs for Point. Paige Lowe added 19 assists for the Skyhawks in the matchup.
