Volleyball drops home SSAC contest to Life in a sweep

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 22, 2023) - The Point University Volleyball team returned to the court at the West Point Gym for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Life University, where the Skyhawks fell to the Running Eagles in a sweep. 

Set One (25-22, Loss) 

The first set started in Point's favor as the Skyhawks took a 7-2 run over the Running Eagles. Life fought back to make the set a one-point game, with the score being 9-8 with the Skyhawks ahead. The kill from Tianna Kynard and the attack error from Life extended Point's lead, followed by a kill from Jadakate Judkins. The block from Aaliyah Lobendahn and Jadakate Judkins helped the Skyhawks take the next score, but the Running Eagles started to find their rhythm by scoring the following five points to take the lead with a score of 14-13. Life's run continued to catapult their lead further as the Running Eagles took the following three points. Sameily Marquez entered the fray on a mission by halting the run from the Running Eagles as Point trailed 21-17. An attack error from Life and kills from Claire Cordell and Paige Lowe helped Point score three quick points to creep closer to their comeback. The Running Eagles could fend off the Skyhawks without completing the comeback by taking the first set. 

Set Two (25-17, Loss) 

The second set started with the momentum on the side of the Running Eagles as Life got off to a 10-1 lead. The kill from Jadakate Judkins halted the continuous scoring from the Running Eagles, but Life continued to add fuel to the fire by extending their lead to 11 with a 16-5 score. Point started to get it going as Jadakate Judkins and Aaliyah Lobendahn fired for the block, followed by a kill from Judkins and an attack error from the Running Eagles. The Skyhawks continued to try to push their way back into the matchup by capitalizing on the mistakes from Life, which brought the score to 22-14. Tianna Kynard added another kill on the day to continue to help Point find their way back. The final two kills came from the Running Eagles to end the set with a 25-17 win. 

Set Three (25-22, Loss) 

The third set started with an attack error and a kill from Ava Clay to put Point ahead with a score of 2-1. Life fired back with four scores in a row to lead by three, but the Skyhawks would not go away quickly as Aaliyah Lobendahn added kills, followed by attack errors from Life to trail by one. Life took the following two scores to lead by three, but the Skyhawks woke the West Point Gynamsium up with kills from Angel Johnson and Aaliyah Lobendahn to help Point go on a 4-0 run to take the lead. Life came out of their timeout with a new energy and regained the lead of a 5-0 run, bringing the score to 15-12. The set continued to see both teams trade scores but the game would come to a tie when Sameily Marquez tacked on a kill to tie it 17. The Running Eagles took the following seven scores, hoping to hold the Skyhawks at 17. Point returned the favor by taking advantage of four attack errors from the Running Eagles, followed by a service ace from Emma Parker to bring the score 24-22. As the stakes continued to heighten, Life finished the set on a block, completing their sweep over the Skyhawks. 

In the Box 

Jadakate Judkins, Aaliyah Lobendahn, and Sameily each led with four kills on the evening. Claire Cordell and Paige Lowe led with 14 digs, and Jordan Palmer added 13.
