Track and Field pushes through at the Montreat College Open

MONTREAT, N.C. (Mar. 23, 2024) - The Skyhawks traveled up to the mountains of Montreat, NC for a cold, rainy, and windy weekend. Despite the conditions, the Skyhawks still walked away with 6 PRs and 2 broken school records. 

The weekend started on Friday, with Sanjuan Warner competing in the men's discus throw. Warner threw his second furthest in his career, 42.84 placing 11th out of 45. 

The running events kicked off with Anna Brown and Nolwenn Blain competing in the women's 1500m run. Brown crushed her previous best time of 5:51.79, finishing in 5:22.97. Blain finished with a time of 6:03.10, narrowly finishing behind her personal best of 6:02.18. 

Later in the evening Jesse Baldwin and Elijah Pace raced the 10,000m. Baldwin set the freshman record in the event, finishing with a time of 34:21.03. That time puts Baldwin #1 in the SSAC. Teammate Elijah Pace finished with a time of 35:00.09. That time puts Pace 3rd in the SSAC. 

Saturday began with the 4x100. The men narrowly broke the school record by .01, finishing with a time of 43.75. That time puts Point #3 in the SSAC. 

In the 100m dash sophomore, Ellie Seekins hit a new personal best, with a time of 14.64.

Sanjuan Warner, kicked the field events off with a big day in the Javelin throw, breaking a school record. Warner demolished his previous school record of 42.17m by throwing 47.07m. That distance puts Warner #2 in the SSAC. 

The day finished with the 4x400, with the men finishing with an SSAC #3 time of 3:37.05 and the women with the #2 time in the SSAC, with a time of 4:57.56

The Skyhawks will return to action in Carrollton, Georgia for the University of West Georgia Legends Track Meet beginning on Friday, April 5 and wrapping up on Saturday, April 6th.
