Women’s Soccer drops home matchup to Georgia Gwinnett

WEST POINT, Ga. (Oct. 25, 2023) - The Point University Women's Soccer returned to the pitch for a nonconference matchup at the River Bowl Stadium where the Skyhawks fell to the Grizzlies with a final score of 4-0. 

The first began with Georgia Gwinnett taking the first 11 shots as the Grizzlies looked to get their offense going against the Skyhawks. The Grizzlies' fast start earned them a 1-0 lead as Georgia Gwinnett scored their first goal. Georgia Gwinnett kept a 1-0 lead going into the half as the Skyhawks were only able to take two shots in the first half. 

Georgia Gwinnett took advantage of the early momentum and brought it into the second by extending their lead to 2-0. Point's defense continued to look to slow down the Grizzlies which helped by forcing Georgia Gwinnett to take three uncomfortable shots. However, the Grizzlies overcame that by scoring the following two goals to ice the game at 4-0 and shutout Point. 

In the Box 

Kelly Rowland made the start as Goalkeeper and tallied nine saves in the contest. Georgia Gwinnett allowed two total shots from Point overall.  

Up Next 

The Skyhawks will return to the River Bowl Stadium for a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup against Life University which also serves as Senior Day along with the final game of the 2023-24 Season starting at 3:00 P.M. The Senior Day Ceremony will occur during halftime.
