Women’s Soccer fall to Mobile in SSAC Opener

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 14, 2023) - The Point University women's soccer team returned to the pitch for a home conference opener against the University of Mobile, where the Skyhawks fell to the Rams 5-0.

The first half started with the Rams starting fast on the offensive end, as Mobile scored the first goal in the first eight minutes. Point looked to respond as Alyssa Bennett took a shot on goal, but Julianna Gomez made the save to keep Mobile ahead. The Rams added to their lead as their offense started to catch fire with their second goal of the half. The Skyhawks continued to look to cool down the Rams at the River Bowl stadium, but the momentum proved to be on Mobile's as the Rams added to their lead with a third goal. The Skyhawks did not go into halftime without a fight, as Point took two shots to put pressure on the Rams but could not secure the goal.

The second half started with the Rams duplicating their fast start as Mobile extended their lead to four. The Skyhawks were in a situation of getting their pace going as Point created a small drought for Mobile for the next few minutes. Mobile retaliated with a 5-0 lead as Kathleen McCarthy scored the final goal for the Rams. The Skyhawks could not move past the Rams on offense, as the match was called early due to lightning in the area.
