Skyhawks cap off road schedule with third consecutive win

GRAYSON, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2021) – For the third consecutive time, only one goal was needed to be scored for the Point University women's soccer team to come out victorious, as the Skyhawks defeated Kentucky Christian University 1-0, Friday afternoon on the road.

The Skyhawks are now 5-2 in October, with all five of their wins being shutouts and four of the five games having a final score of 1-0. Overall, the Skyhawks are now 7-7-1 and 7-3-1 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

"We didn't play our best game today and it wasn't pretty but an away win in the AAC is always important and we did enough," Head Coach Randy Douglas said. "Defensively solid and a much better overall second half. Happy for Marissa for scoring the game-winner. She's had a very consistent season and it was great for her to put that one away."

It was a quiet first half, with each team only taking one shot apiece. Keiry Bonilla accounted for Point's lone shot attempt. In the second half, Point jumped out with five shots in the first 14 minutes of action, with the Skyhawks' fifth shot finding the back of the net to get Point on the board.

Point's goal was scored by Marissa Amaya, and she was assisted by Carmen Kager, who recorded her sixth assist on the year. The Skyhawks outshot KCU 7-3 in the second half, forcing the Knights' goalkeeper to make four saves.

Erica Burkhardt had two saves on the day and recorded her second clean sheet of the week.

Friday's match concludes Point's road portion of the 2021 schedule, as the Skyhawks have three games left in the regular season, all inside River Bowl Stadium. The Skyhawks' first of final three matches will be against Union on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 12 p.m. Following Sunday's game, Point will host Columbia on Wednesday, Oct. 27, and Bluefield on Saturday, Oct. 30, in their season finale.
