Women’s lacrosse drops final game of regular season

ROME, Ga. (April 9, 2022) – The Point University women's lacrosse team traveled to Shorter University Saturday afternoon for its final matchup of the regular season and fell to the Hawks 21-5.

Shorter jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the contest before Destinie Claggion cut the lead in half, with Point's first goal off a free position shot. The Hawks would extend their lead out with three more goals in the first quarter, taking a 5-1 lead entering the second quarter.

The Skyhawks would open the second quarter with back-to-back goals from Victoria Cortes and Kaelyn Geathers, cutting Shorter's lead down to two (5-3). The Hawks would answer with five goals before Sydney Hanna would score her first goal of the contest. Shorter would score the final goal of the half and lead 11-4 at the break.

Shorter's offense would dominate in the third quarter, scoring seven goals, while the Hawks' defense prevented the Skyhawks from scoring. Shorter entered the final frame leading 18-4 and added three goals in the fourth quarter. Geathers scored the game's last goal from a free position shot with 1:56 remaining.

Shorter outshot Pont 45-10. Geathers led Point with two goals, five shots, four on goal, two ground balls and two draw controls. Kayla Bone had 16 saves in goal.

Point now awaits the seedings for the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, as the Skyhawks, Truett McConnell, and Tennessee Wesleyan each finished AAC play 2-6.
