Women's Basketball adds All-Conference honors to their storied program

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Feb. 28, 2024) - The Southern States Athletic Conference announced All-Conference honors on Wednesday, February 28th. The Point University Women’s Basketball Team was featured in multiple categories including All-Conference, Barnes and Noble All-Academic, and Champions of Character. 

Second Team All-Conference: Mataea Boyd 

Mataea Boyd adds her second all-conference honor in her career as a Skyhawk. The Senior from Waycross, Georgia came into the season on a clean slate to show that she could be a top player in the Southern States Athletic Conference while also proving that she can get a bucket. Within a few games into the season, Mataea Boyd broke the school record for most points scored in a single game when she scored 39 Points against Reinhardt University. This record-breaking day earned SSAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Boyd made improvements on the season with her three-point shooting as her percentage rose from 33.3 to 35.2 percent. Boyd also leaped at the charity stripe going from 69.4 Percent to 81.2. Defensively, Mataea Boyd continued to wreak havoc in the passing lanes as she added another season of averaging two steals per game. With her averaging 2.0 steals a game, this made her top 10 in steals in the conference where Boyd was sixth on the list. Overall, Mataea Boyd finished the regular season with 13.1 Points per game and was a player to watch each time she stepped onto the court by finding any way to contribute to her team. With the experience of Boyd in the postseason, she will look to push the Skyhawks to more success in the SSAC Tournament with the hopes of adding more jewelry. 

Second Team All-Conference: Ky’Leo Worriels 

Ky’Leo Worriels has added another All-Conference award to her Point Skyhawk resume as she was honored with Second Team All-Conference. Worriels had the mindset of making her presence known on the court in the new conference along with adding improvements. The first improvement came from the charity stripe as she jumped from 61.4 percent to 69.6 percent. The Senior from Hinesville, Georgia also proved to be one of the top rebounders in the conference as she was the second-leading rebounder in the SSAC with 10.3 rebounds per game. Ky’Leo Worriels had 15 games where she collected 10 or more rebounds which says a lot about how much pride she took in crashing the boards Worriels continued to be the last line of defense with her blocks as she added another season averaging 2.1 blocks a game which earned her the top leading shot blocker in the conference.  Ky’Leo Worriels also added a three-point shot to her game as she took more threes this year. For Ky’Leo Worriels, she added 9.3 Points Per Game, 10.3 Rebounds per game, and 2.1 blocks per game. With this being her second career honor at Point, Worriels knows her work is not done as she would like to add another ring before her time is up at Point. 

Champions of Character: Ansley Miranda 

Ansley Miranda is a player who is loved by all of her peers on the roster and is truly a well-respected person. Miranda has been a player who has shown the five core values that are preached day in and day out which is why this was a no-brainer for her to get this honor. The Senior from Warner Robins, Georgia has made many memories with the Point University Women’s Basketball program which includes winning a ring, being able to make shots in front of her friends and family on Senior Day, and the bonds she created that will last a lifetime just to name a few. With the attitude to give it her all each time she steps on the court, the Champions of Character award speaks volumes about her impact in the locker room and with her peers.
