MONTREAT, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2023) - The Point University Women's Basketball team returned to the court for a Saturday afternoon nonconference game against former Appalachian Athletic Conference foe, Montreat College and fell 66-57.

The Cavaliers scored the first points of the game as Montreat made two free throws but Shanbriah Rule responded with a three-pointer to put the Skyhawks ahead 3-2. Montreat came back with a three-pointer to take the lead and followed with two free throws. Ky'Leo Worriels crashed the offensive boards for the putback layup and followed with another layup in the paint to have Point trailing 9-7. In early fashion like the previous matchup, Shakira Wilson tacked on a three-point bomb to put the Skyhawks ahead and Miral Cannon followed with a triple to bring the score 13-9. Montreat added a couple of free throws to tie the game but Shakira Wilson had other ideas by cashing in on her second three-pointer of the quarter to go into the second period leading 16-13. The Cavaliers started the second period with a three-pointer and a layup to regain the lead by two. The Skyhawks retaliated as Shakira Wilson and Mataea Boyd added back-to-back threes to put Point ahead 22-18. Boyd followed with a smooth take to the lane for the layup which saw both teams trading baskets for the next two minutes. Shanbriah Rule showed her finesse as she added the and-one layup and followed with a converted free throw to lead 27-24. As the half was coming to a close, Point continued their run as Mirial Cannon knocked down a jumper and Jada Williams splashed a three-pointer. Shanbriah Rule added the final basket of the half to see the Skyhawks lead 34-27 at the half.

Coming into the third period, Mataea Boyd opened the half with a steal and scored on the layup which saw Montreat take a timeout to regather their focus. The Skyhawks continued to hold their lead as Ky'Leo Worriels and Shakira Wilson scored the following two layups. The Cavaliers went on a 10-0 run to wipe away the lead from Point and lead by one. Two made free throws from Mataea Boyd and a layup from Shanbriah Rule tied the game at 44 but Montreat took the lead again with a three-pointer and a jump shot to lead 49-44 to go into the fourth. Montreat's new focus in the second half continued to carry the Cavaliers in the fourth quarter as jumpers and free throws kept them in the lead. Mirial Cannon would add a three-pointer to slow the Cavaliers down which was followed by a layup from Ky'Leo Worriels. With under five minutes left in the game, Mirial Cannon and Shakira Wilson knocked down three-point bombs but the Skyhawks would not be able to score more than those six points as Montreat took the win 66-57.
