Women’s basketball falls in semifinal round of AAC tournament

KINGSPORT, Tenn. (Feb. 25, 2022) – No. 3 Point University women's basketball faced No. 2 Milligan University Friday evening in the semifinal round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, and a fourth quarter surge by the Buffs would help them secure a 71-54 victory over the Skyhawks.

Both teams entered the second half tied at 27 after Point opened the game leading 15-11, but the Buffaloes outscored Point 16-12 in the second quarter. The Buffaloes led by six in the third quarter, but a 3-pointer from Nicole Izuagie with 40 seconds remaining would cut Milligan's lead down to three entering the final frame.

Milligan opened the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run to extend their lead out by double-figures with 6:06 left in the game. Izuagie would sink a 3-pointer to cut Milligan's lead down to seven, but Milligan's Jaycie Jenkins would connect for a triple of her own to help the Buffs retake a 10-point lead. Izuagie would once answer with a triple of her own, but Milligan's Halie Padgett would go on a 10-2 run in the waning minutes of action to extend Milligan's lead out 67-52 and the Skyhawks were unable to perform a comeback.

Sheyvonne Owens and Izuagie led Point's offense with 12 points apiece. Owens added 12 boards to her stat line to finish the season with 13 double-doubles. Iyanna McMillan recorded 10 points and added six boards and Marta Gimenez finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals.

Point finished its season 24-7.
