Women’s basketball wins final road game of the season

GRAYSON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2022) — The Point University women's basketball team traveled to Kentucky Christian University on Monday, and defeated the Knights 79-67.

"Today's win was the best 'away' team victory of the season," Head Coach Tory Wooley said. "We were sharp offensively and Marta did an outstanding job orchestrating our offense. Shey dominated the interior on both sides of the ball while Marta, Hannah and Nicole did and outstanding job knocking down shots as we shot 43% from the three-point arc."

Both teams scored 15 points in the opening quarter, and were tied at 32 with 2:12 remaining in the half, before a layup from Nicole Izuagie sparked a 7-2 run by the Skyhawks to enter the second half leading 39-34.

Point came out of the halftime break with all the momentum, as they went on to out score the Knights 21-7. Two free throws from Sheyvonne Owens, followed by a 3-pointer from Marta Gimenez sparked the Skyhawks' high-scoring third quarter. The Skyhawks entered the final frame leading 60-41.

With 1:22 left in the game, the Knights brought Point's lead back down to 10, but that was as close as they'd get as the Skyhawks held the lead by 10-points or more.

Four Skyhawks made their way into the double-figures scoring column. Owens led the way with a double-double, scoring 20 points and recording 14 boards. Hannah Williams followed with 19 points, adding on six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Izuagie finished with 18 points and Gimenez was the final Skyhawk in double-figures with 15. Gimenez added six rebounds, four assists and three steals to her stat line.

Point's victory over KCU concluded their road portion of the 2021-22 season. The Skyhawks finished 8-4 on the road. Point is currently 21-5 (17-5 AAC).

The Skyhawks will finalize the regular-season with two games inside West Point Park Gymnasium. Point's next game will be against Milligan University on Wednesday, Feb. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Point's final game of the season will be on Saturday, Feb. 19, against Tennessee Wesleyan.
