Women’s basketball rolls past St. Andrews for fourth straight win

LAURINBURG, N.C. (Jan. 29, 2022) – Behind a double-double from Sheyvonne Owens and a season-high 28 points from Iyanna McMillan, the Point University women's basketball team defeated St. Andrews 66-47 Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Point advances to 16-3 overall and 12-3 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play and the Knights fell to 0-18 (0-17 AAC).

It was a low-scoring opening quarter as the Skyhawks led 11-4 entering the second period. With 6:37 left in the half, McMillan connected for a triple to give Point a double-digit lead, 18-7 and the Skyhawks entered the second half ahead 27-16.

In the second half, Point continued to steadily increase its lead, earning its largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter with 7:05 remaining (55-31), and the Knights were unable to catch up.

McMillan was 9-for-14 from the field and 5-for-7 from the 3-point arc. At the free throw line, she was 5-for-8. Owens followed, finishing with 12 points and 11 rebounds, recording her eighth double-double of the season. Hannah Williams finished the day with seven points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks and Marta Gimenez had six points, eight rebounds and three steals.

"Today, our players did an outstanding job taking care of business on the road," Head Coach Tory Wooley said. "Iyanna played terrific and really led her team to victory."

Up next, Point hosts Montreat in an AAC matchup on Monday, Jan. 31, at 3:30 p.m. inside West Point Park Gymnasium.
