Big win advances women's basketball in AAC tournament

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 20, 2021) – Behind a game-high of 19 points from Hannah Williams, the Point University women's basketball team defeated St. Andrews University 77-48 Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament Saturday in West Point Park Gymnasium.

"Even though we got off to a slow start, our ladies responded well in the second half and pushed the ball in transition, which translated into easy baskets," Head Coach Tory Wooley said. "We have to improve some areas before our conference quarterfinal game on Wednesday. I couldn't be happier for our seniors to get their first post-season victory in their last home game."

Strong second half propels Skyhawks to victory

Both teams played a close first quarter, with the Skyhawks ahead 10-7 entering the second period. In the second quarter, Point led by no more than five points in the first three and a half minutes of play but closed the second quarter out on a 12-8 run to earn a 10 point lead entering the break.

In the third quarter, Point held on to a double-figure lead all but twice, and both times coming in the opening minutes of the quarter. Back-to-back triples by Iyanna McMillan and Marta Gimenez would extend Point's lead out to 21 entering the fourth quarter, where the Skyhawks would work their lead out to 35 points and never trail by less than 23.
