McMillan's career night lifts Point over Brenau

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (Jan. 26, 2021) – Junior Iyanna McMillan went off for 29 points to lead the Point University women's basketball team to a 61-56 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over Brenau University Tuesday night on the road.

McMillan's 29 points is a career-high, as her previous highest-scoring game was during the 2019-20 season, where she scored 23 points against St. Andrews.

Big third quarter lifts Skyhawks

After a tight first half that saw the Skyhawks take an early 19-12 lead in the first quarter, Brenau answered back in the second quarter and took a 33-32 lead entering the half. McMillan already had 17 points at the break, with nine of those points coming from the perimeter.

Point started the half out on a 10-2 run to regain the lead, which the Skyhawks would hold on to for the remainder of the contest. Brenau's Tatyiana McClendon made the first basket of the quarter, but a two-pointer by Aissa Stevenson, followed by a made free-throw by Marta Gimenez, tied the game at 35. With the score tied for the fifth time, Hannah Williams put the Skyhawks ahead by two, with Stevenson and Nikole Mobley following to give Point a six-point lead. McMillan then connected for a 3-pointer to put Point ahead by nine with seven minutes to go in the quarter. Point held Brenau to only nine points in the third quarter, as the Skyhawks went on to double that and enter the fourth quarter ahead 50-42.

The Skyhawks held on to the lead for the entire fourth quarter, with Brenau pulling the score back within four twice but never by any less.

McMillan was joined by six other Skyhawks in the scoring column, with Mobley and Williams following with eight points each. Gimenez had a season-high of 10 rebounds and Williams followed with eight.
