Women's basketball falls to Milligan in AAC opener

MILLIGAN, Tenn. (Nov. 7, 2020) – Iyanna McMillan and Nicole Izuagie led all scorers with 18 points each, but it was not enough as the Point University women's basketball team fell to Milligan University 76-68 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon on the road.

Point led 66-65 following a steal by McMillan, who would score off the steal to give the Skyhawks the lead, but Milligan went on an 11-2 run to end the game.

Play-by-play

The Skyhawks opened up the game going on a 9-2 run, but the Buffs would answer back and go on a 16-2 run to close out the first quarter.

The second quarter was all Milligan as the Buffs would never lose the lead and extend their lead out to 13. Entering the second half, Point trailed by 13 and Izuagie led all scorers with 13 points.

Milligan would lead by 14 with less than five minutes left in the third quarter before a two-pointer by Za'kkria Robinson would send Point on a 13-2 run to close the quarter. McMillan would score in the final second of the quarter after an offensive rebound to bring the score within three. Milligan led 57-54 entering the fourth quarter.

McMillan would put the Skyhawks ahead 58-57 off a two-pointer from the paint with less than eight minutes left in the game. The Buffs would regain the lead again, but Hannah Williams would score off of a fast break to regain the lead for Point. Marta Gimenez would extend Point's lead out to three with two made free throws, but that was the largest lead Point would have as Milligan answered back and took the lead for good with less than two minutes left in the game.

By the numbers

Following McMillan and Izuagie in the scoring column was Gimenez with 13 points. Gimenez and Izuagie led the Skyhawks with five rebounds apiece, and Williams posted four steals on the day.
