Point Softball unable to overcome the Barons in road SSAC Play

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. (Apr. 13, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to the field for a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader on the road against Brewton-Parker College where the Skyhawks fell to the Barons in a sweep.

Game One (3-2, Loss)

The Skyhawks opened the top of the first inning with Hannah Phillips adding a base hit with a successful bunt. Phillips found her way to second to add some pressure to the Barons' defense in the early going. Ramsey Clark's sacrifice bunt put Hannah Phillips in scoring position on third base with one out on the board. A wild pitch from Brewton-Parker was the perfect opportunity for the Skyhawks to add their first run with Phillips sprinting her way home. The Barons responded to the momentum from the Skyhawks with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at 1-1. Emma Cavender made quick work of the Barons' batters in the bottom of the second inning with three quick outs.  Brewton-Parker took the lead in the third inning with a single past the shortstop which was enough to advance a runner home to take the lead. The Barons' lead grew to 3-1 with a double to left center for another run. Tia Coleman and Mary Durham opened the top of the sixth with base hits to add two runners on base. As Brewton-Parker looked to escape the inning, four balls with Caylee Quarles at-bat loaded the bases. Raley Thorn's walk to the first base helped send home Ansley Joiner to cut into the Barons' lead with a score of 3-2. With one last chance in the top of the seventh, the Skyhawks were unable to steal the game from the Barons to bring the game end with a final score of 3-2.

Game Two (3-2, Loss)

The Barons opened Game Two with a two-run lead with a double to left center and a walk with bases loaded. Brewton-Parker followed with a 3-0 lead on a hit by a pitch with three runners on base. Savanna Bryant added Point's first run with an RBI single down the left field line which advanced Brooke Burkett home to trail 3-1. The Skyhawks continued to climb as Savanna Bryant added her second RBI single with Burkett adding her second run.
