Point Softball falls in a sweep to #20 Middle Georgia

COCHRAN, Ga. (Apr. 12, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to the field for a Southern States Athletic Conference Matchup on the road against #20 Middle Georgia State University where the Skyhawks fell to the Knights in a sweep. 

Game One (16-1, Loss) 

Brooke Burkett opened the top of the first inning with a home run to put the Skyhawks in the lead. Tia Coleman followed with a single through the left side to continue the early momentum. Savanna Bryant added another base hit for the Skyhawks as she added a single to the left field. The Knights responded by adding five runs in the bottom of the second inning to wipe the lead away from the Skyhawks. Middle Georgia continued their momentum with a sacrifice bunt and an RBI single to increase their lead to 7-1. Point looked to respond to the Knights' fiery spark but would be unable to add another run. The Knights ended the bottom of the fourth inning by adding nine runs to end the game with a 16-1 win over the Skyhawks in five innings. 

Game Two (10-2, Loss) 

Point opened the top of the first inning with Ramsey Clark adding a base hit to left field. Brooke Burkett followed with a fielder's choice bunt followed by a throwing error from the pitcher to add two runners on base. With two outs on the board, the Knights looked to strikeout Savanna Bryant but a fourth ball helped load the bases for Point. A walk from Mary Durham advanced Ramsey Clark home for Point's first run. The Skyhawks looked to add a second run in the top of the first but Brooke Burkett would be called out at home. The Knights added two runs in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right center and an RBI single. The Knights extended their lead with a grand slam homer to increase their lead to 6-1. Caylee Quarles followed with a double to right center to advance Alyssa Burrows home for their second run of the game. Middle Georgia finished the game with four more runs to take Game Two in run-rule fashion for the sweep.

The Skyhawks will return to the field for a road SSAC Doubleheader against Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, April 13th starting at 1:00 & 3:00 P.M.
