Point Softball drops road SSAC Doubleheader to Stillman

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Apr. 5, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to action for an afternoon Southern States Athletic Conference Matchup against Stillman College where the Skyhawks fell in a sweep to the Tigers. 

Game One (9-1, Loss) 

The Skyhawks opened the top of the first inning with Tia Coleman adding a RBI single past the left side which helped Ramsey Clark advance home for the first run. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning by taking the lead after adding five runs. Wellsley Henderson opened the top of the second inning with a single to right field but the Tigers were able to end the inning with no runs allowed to keep the score at 5-1. Stillman extended their lead by adding four more runs to end the game in six innings with a final score of 9-1. 

Game Two (13-5, Loss) 

Point opened the top of the first inning with Hannah Phillips and Ramsey Clark adding two base hits to create early momentum. Brooke Burkett's sacrifice bunt was able to advance Hannah Phillips home for the first run with Point in the lead. The Skyhawks added their second run with Tia Coleman's RBI single to right field to send Ramsey Clark to home plate. Point continued their streak of hits with Savanna Bryant adding a base hit followed by an RBI single from Ansley Joiner to end the top of the first inning with a 3-0 lead. Stillman tied the game at the bottom of the inning with a three-run homer. The Tigers added their second home run of the game with a two-run homer to take the lead with a score of 5-3. Stillman followed with two RBI Singles to extend their lead to 7-3 at the bottom of the fourth inning. Point came charging back with Kacy Partridge adding a single through the left side which sent Tia Coleman home for their fourth run. Mackenzie Diaz followed with a single past first base to advance Savanna Bryant home and bring the score to 7-5. As both teams entered the sixth inning, The Skyhawks looked to keep their streak of hits alive as Brooke Burkett added a single to left field and Tia Coleman followed with a double down the left field line. Stillman held the Skyhawks to no runs and added six runs at the bottom of the inning to end the game with a final score of 13-5. 

Up Next 

The Skyhawks will return to the field for an afternoon doubleheader against NCAA Division III, Agnes Scott College starting at 2:00 & 4:00 P.M. The Senior Day ceremony will occur following Game Two as the Softball team will honor five Seniors.
