Point Softball halts Lagrange on the road with a sweep

LAGRANGE, Ga. (Mar. 13, 2024) - The Point University Softball team returned to the field for a non-conference doubleheader against NCAA Division III, Lagrange College where the Skyhawks surged past the Panthers with a final score of 6-0 in Game One and 11-1 in Game Two. 

Game One (6-0, Win) 

The Skyhawks opened the top of the first inning with two runners on base as Hannah Phillips and Ramsey Clark walked. Savanna Bryant hit a single near third base which could not be corralled which scored Hannah Phillips home for the first run. Point continued to roll at bat as the Skyhawks started the third inning with a bunt from Ramsey Clark to get on base. An error from Center field helped Caylee Quarles advance to third base and score Ramsey Clark to lead 2-0. Tia Coleman followed with a sacrifice fly to send Quarles home for a three-run lead. Point continued to neutralize the Panthers as Katelyn Jiles struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the inning. The Skyhawks began the top of the fourth inning with a double to left field from Brooke Burkett and a bunt from Hannah Phillips to add two runners on base. Ramsey Clark followed with an RBI single to center field which scored Brooke Burkett for the fourth run. The Skyhawks were not done as Point capitalized from the errors of Lagrange with Ramsey Clark advancing home from a passed ball. The Skyhawks scored their final run of Game One with Brooke Burkett connecting with a single to left field to score Skye Loftin. In the final two innings, Point only allowed one hit to finish the first game with a final score of 6-0. 

Game Two (11-1, Win) 

The Skyhawks opened the first inning with Hannah Phillips using her speed to advance for the first run. Savanna Bryant followed with an RBI single which advanced Tia Coleman home to extend their lead to 2-0. Point added more of their momentum in the second inning as Hannah Phillips added a hit that advanced multiple runners on base including Skye Loftin advancing home. An error from the center field helped to score Kayden Helton home to add their third run. With bases loaded, the Panthers could not retire a batter as Caylee Quarles was walked which scored another run. Tia Coleman followed with a double to center field to score two runs with Ramsey Clark and Caylee Quarles advancing home. The final run of the inning came from a sacrifice fly by Savanna Bryant. The Skyhawks opened the top of the inning with Tia Coleman adding a home run to left field for two runs. The game's final run came from Kayden Helton adding a sacrifice fly to score Savanna Bryant to bring the lead to 11-0.
