Point Softball taken down in a sweep versus Faulkner

WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 7, 2024) - The Point University Softball returned to the West Point Park Softball field for a home Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader against Faulkner University where the Skyhawks fell to the Eagles in a sweep. Faulkner took game one with a final score of 8-0 in Game One and also took Game Two with a final score of 7-0. 

Game One (8-0, Loss) 

Faulkner opened the scoring column as the Eagles loaded the bases with one hit and two walks. Their first run concluded with a walk to advance a runner home to bring the score 1-0. Faulkner tacked a second run in the top of the second inning with a single past the shortstop to extend the lead to 2-0. Point added their first hit in the bottom of the third inning as Mary Durham singled a hit to center field but would be unable to convert a run. The Eagles entered the fourth inning by adding a run from a sacrifice fly. With two runners on base, Faulkner added a single to center field which scored two runs to increase the lead to 5-0. The Skyhawks would be shut out as the Eagles added three more runs to take game one in six innings with a final score of 8-0. 

Game Two (7-0, Loss) 

The Game Two matchup remained scoreless through the first four innings as both teams looked to find their way on the scoreboard. The Eagles prevailed with a double to center field which scored two runners in scoring position to bring their lead to 2-0. The fifth inning saw a crazy sequence that started with a bunt and ended with a runner out at second and two runners advancing home to add two runs. Ansley Joiner added a single past the shortstop to get on base but the Eagles followed a double play on the next batter to end the fifth inning. Faulkner finished with three runs in the seventh inning as the first run came from a wild pitch and the following two runs were singles in the infield. The Eagles wrapped up the doubleheader with a sweep over the Skyhawks with a final score of 7-0.

The Skyhawks will return to the West Point Park Softball Field for a doubleheader matchup against NCAA Division II, Tuskegee University on Wednesday, March 13th starting at 4:00 & 6:00 P.M.
