Haley Lyner named as a Second Team All-American to finish her illustrious career.

WEST POINT, Ga. (June 7, 2023) - The NAIA announced the Softball All-American teams on Wednesday, June 7, and Haley Lyner appeared as a Second Team All-American. Lyner, who was named AAC Softball Player of the Year, has added another accolade to her resume after putting up monster numbers on the field for Point Softball in the 2023 Season. With this accomplishment, Lyner has become the first-ever All-American in Point University Softball history.

The Senior from Oxford, Alabama, came into the season with a mindset to contribute positively to the program. Lyner started the season by earning AAC Softball Player of the Week during the week of February 20th, where she posted numbers of a .381 batting average, scored seven runs, had a walk-off SAC RBI, two doubles, one stolen base, and tallied one homerun while posting a .619 slugging percentage. Haley Lyner continued to make noise around the conference as her stellar play elevated with her second AAC Softball Player of the Week during the week of March 27th, where she batted .550 on the week, drove in 13 runs, and scored eight while also adding two home runs, one double and a 0.900 slugging percentage. Overall, Lyner posted a .410 batting average on the historic season.445 On Base Percentage, .665 Slugging Percentage, 71 hits, 54 RBIs, nine home runs, 11 stolen bases, 10 walks, and 15 doubles.

When Haley Lyner came to Point University as a transfer from Southern Union Community College, she felt the feeling of home. She loved how Head Coach Jennifer Tyler and Assistant Coach Sarah Warren Bowles made her feel like a worthy person and how relatable they were. Lyner was unsure if she would continue to play softball at the collegiate level and shared how she regained her love for the sport on the Lunch Break Podcast. Lyner mentioned, “I had a friend who told me I was too good not to play softball in college on a random night at a gas station.” That quote led her to the Junior College of Southern Union, where she spent three years and mentioned that it taught me how to be a softball player and a good person in general while working hard for what you want.” Haley Lyner’s love for the atmosphere where everyone supports each other made it an easy choice to become a Skyhawk after she finished her time in Juco. Haley Lyner has made a name for herself in her Skyhawk career as she has been recognized as AAC Second Team All-Conference (2022), AAC First Team All-Conference (2023), AAC Softball Player of the Year (2023), Three-time AAC Softball Player of the Week and now a Second-Team All-American. She enters the history of Point Softball as the first-ever All-American in program history.
