Softball splits at Clark Atlanta's Senior Day

ATLANTA, Ga. (April 12, 2023) – The Point University softball team played a non-conference doubleheader on the road against Clark Atlanta and took a split. The Skyhawks would lose game one, 10-3 and win game two, 15-12.

 

Game 1 – 10-3 LOSS

The Panthers would drop out to a 7-0 lead on their Senior Day after seven innings. In the top of the fourth, Allie Davis would hit a solo home run to make it 7-1. Kayla Wyatt would later hit a 2-RBI double that would score Brianna Plocharczyk and Gabrielle Riley to make it 7-3.  The Panthers would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 10-3 game. The Skyhawks would be able to extend the game in the seventh, allowing the Panthers to hold on to the 10-3 victory.

Game 2 – 15-12 WIN

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started when Haley Lyner would hit an RBI single, that would score Devon Foster to make it a 1-0 game. Wellsley Henderson would hit a single through the left side to score Lyner to make it 2-0 after the top of the first inning. The Panthers would get a run back in the bottom of the first to make it a 2-1 game. In the top of the second, the Skyhawks would jump out to a 9-1 lead. The second inning scoring would start when Brianna Plocharczyk would score on a wild pitch making it 3-1. Haley Lyner would leave the ballpark with her 3-run homer to make it 6-1. Gabrielle Riley would hit an RBI single that would score Taylor Knight to make the score 7-1. Plocharczyk would single up the middle to score Allie Davis to make it 8-1. With the bases loaded, Kayla Wyatt would walk, which would allow Henderson to score to make it a 9-1 game. The Panthers would get three runs back on a home run to make it 9-4. The Skyhawks would strike again when Allie Davis would hit a sacrifice fly to left field, which would score Lyner to make it 10-4. Henderson would hit a sacrifice fly to left field as well, to score Taylor Knight to make it 11-4. In the top of the fifth, Savanna Bryant would hit an RBI single that would score Lyner to make it 12-4. Kayla Wyatt would single up the middle to score Bryant to make it a 13-4 game. Later on in the fifth, Devon Foster would walk with the bases loaded to score Henderson, which would make it a 14-4 game. The Panthers would hit their way back into the game, scoring three runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to make it a 14-9 score. Gabrielle Riley would hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to make it a 15-9 score. The Panthers would make it 15-12 when they would hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. The Panthers were unable to complete the comeback and the Skyhawks to the victory, as well as the split on the day.

Next Game

The softball team will play host to AAC for, Bluefield (VA) on Saturday, April 15 for Senior Day at West Point Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. and the Senior Day celebration will take place after Game 2, which is scheduled to start 30 minutes after the last out of Game 1.
