Softball sweeps in walk-off fashion against St. Andrew's
WEST POINT, Ga. (April 6, 2023) – The Point University softball team played a home doubleheader today against St. Andrew's and would sweep. The Skyhawks would win Game 1, 11-0 (5 inning mercy rule) and Game 2, 2-1.
Game 1 – 11-0 WIN
The Skyhawks would get the scoring when Taylor Knight would hit an RBI single to score Devon Foster to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first. Allie Davis would add an RBI single in the first when she would score Haley Lyner to make it 2-0. The Skyhawks would score seven runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kayla Wyatt would double and score Brianna Plocharczyk to make it 3-0. Devon Foster would than single to score Wyatt to make it 4-0. Haley Lyner's double, would score both Alexus Griffin and Foster to make it 6-0. A double from Taylor Knight to score Lyner would move the score to 7-0. Allie Davis' 2-run home run would move the score to 9-0 after two innings of play. In the bottom of the third, Gabrielle Riley would add an RBI double to score both Taylor Knight and Haley Lyner to make it 11-0. The Skyhawks got a complete game effort from Mary Michael Burnham as she would throw five innings in the circle, allowing no runs on three hits, no walks and striking out two batters. The Skyhawks would win Game 1, 11-0.

Game 2 – 2-1 WIN
The Knights would score a run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. That lead would be good until the bottom of the seventh with two outs, Brianna Plocharczyk would hit a RBI single to score Alexus Griffin to make it a tie game at 1-1. Kayla Wyatt would single on a liner up the middle that the pitcher would be able to get Wyatt out at first base and Gabrielle Riley would score from second base to walk it off 2-1. Katelyn Jiles would start the game in the circle and would be relieved after three innings of work for Ashlynn Hamm. Hamm would get the win going four innings, scattering two hits and striking out one batter. The Skyhawks would sweep the doubleheader over the Knights.
