Never, say never! Softball can be "royal" after sweep of Johnson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (April 3, 2023) – The Point Skyhawks softball team would head on the road to Knoxville, to take on Johnson University in a AAC doubleheader. The Skyhawks would sweep the doubleheader by winning game one, 8-3 and game two, 8-0 (5 inning mercy rule).

 

Game 1 – 8-3 WIN

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started in the first inning when Taylor Knight would single up the middle to score Alexus Griffin to make it 1-0. The home runs would come out in the second inning when both Skye Loftin and Gabrielle Riley would hit solo shots to make it 3-0. Later on in the second inning, Alexus Griffin would ground out to score Brianna Plocharczyk to make it 4-0. In the third inning, Kayla Wyatt would hit an RBI sacrifice fly that would score Riley to make it 5-0.  The Royals would add three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-3. The Skyhawks would add three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make it 8-3. Brianna Plocharczyk would reach first by an error to score Skye Loftin to make it 6-3. Kayla Wyatt would single to right field to score Ploxharczyk to make it 7-3. Alexus Griffin would hit a sacrifice fly that would score Wyatt to make it 8-3. The Skyhawks would hold on for the game one 8-3 victory. Ashlynn Hamm would record the victory in the circle in relief.

Game 2 – 8-0 WIN

The Skyhawks would get their scoring started in the second inning when Brianna Plocharczyk would single to score both Skye Loftin and Allie Davis to make it 2-0. Later in the inning, Alexus Griffin would single to score Plocharczyk to make it 3-0. The Skyhawks would add four runs in the fourth inning and would start when Devon Foster would double to left field that would score Plocharcyk to make it 4-0. Alexus Griffin would single to score Foster to make it 5-0. Taylor Knight doubled to right center to score both Haley Lyner and Griffin to make it 7-0. The Skyhawks would add one more run in the top of the fifth when Devon Foster would single through the left side to score Gabrielle Riley to make it 8-0. Katelyn Jiles would throw a five inning (mercy rule) complete game shut-out, by scattering five hits and striking out two in the game 2, 8-0 win. The Skyhawks would get a sweep of the doubleheader after the game two victory.

The softball team will stay on the road and head to Dayton, Tenn. tomorrow where they will play an AAC conference doubleheader against Bryan College with the first pitch schedule for 3:00 P.M.
