Skyhawks "walk" the Bulldogs in home sweep of Union

WEST POINT, Ga. (April 1, 2023) – The Point University softball team played a home double header against Union College and swept the doubleheader. The Skyhawks would win game one, 12-4 (6 innings-mercy rule) and game two, 4-1.

Game 1 – 12-4 (6 innings-mercy rule) WIN

Haley Lyner would get the scoring started for the Skyhawks when she would double to left center to score Devon Foster to make it 1-0. The Skyhawks would score four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Alexus Griffin would single to score Brianna Plocharczyk to make it 2-0. Haley Lyner would single to score both Devon Foster and Kayla Wyatt to make it 4-0. Taylor Knight would also hit an RBI single to score Alexus Griffin to give the Skyhawks a 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs would score one run in the top of the third to make it 5-1. The Skyhawks would quickly get that run back in the third inning when Devon Foster would reach first base on an error to score Gabrielle Riley to make it a 6-1 game. The Bulldogs would cut the lead in half in the top of the fourth when they would score two runs to make a 6-3 game. The Skyhawks would get a solo home run by Taylor Knight in the fourth to put the up 7-3. Later in the fourth, Brianna Plocharczyk would double down the left field line to score both Gabrielle Riley and Allie Davis to make it a 9-3 game. The Bulldogs would get one run back in the sixth to make it 9-4. The Skyhawks would get the offense rolling again in the sixth when Haley Lyner would double to left field, scoring both Devon Foster and Kayla Wyatt to make it 11-4. Allie Davis would call game with her RBI double that would score Haley Lyner and give the Skyhawks the 12-4 mercy rule victory in six innings.

Game 2 – 4-1 WIN

The Skyhawks would get the scoring started in the top of the first when Taylor Knight would hit an RBI single up the middle to score Devon Foster to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the third, Haley Lyner would double to right field, which would score Alexus Griffin and Kayla Wyatt to make it 3-0. The Bulldogs would cut the lead on a pass ball that would score a run to make it 3-1. The Skyhawks would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Devon Foster, that scored Brianna Plocharczyk to make it 4-1. Katelyn Jiles would throw a complete game, allowing no runs on three hits, only walking one and striking out six batters to help the Skyhawks get the sweep. The Skyhawks would take game two, 4-1.
