Softball gives Stillman their first loss of the season, but end the day with a split

WEST POINT, Ga. (February 18, 2023) – The Point University softball team played a double header on Saturday at home, against Stillman College in a non-conference contest. The Skyhawks would split the day by winning game one, 5-4 and losing game two, 3-0.

 

GAME 1 – 5-4 WIN

The Tigers would score one run in the first and three in the fifth. Haley Lyner would hit an RBI single that would score Devon Foster to make it 1-1. Being down 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Wellsley Henderson would hit an RBI single that would score Allie Davis to make it 4-2. Haley Lyner would reach on an error by the centerfielder and Devon Foster would score to make 4-3. Taylor Knight would complete the comeback and walk it off with her swing of the bat. Knight would drive in Kayla Wyatt and Haley Lyner to win the game 5-4.

 

In the Circle

Mary Michael Burnham would start game one, pitch four innings, while allowing 3 runs with 2 runs being earned, walking one and striking out one. Burnham would be relieved in the fifth by Ashlynn Hamm who pitch three innings, while allowing 1 earned run and walking one. Hamm would pick up the win in game one.

Allie Davis – 2 for 3; R

Kayla Wyatt - 1 for 3; R, BB, 2B

Haley Lyner – 1 for 4; 2RBIs, R (scored the winning run)

Taylor Knight – 1 for 4; 2RBI game winning 2B

 

GAME 2 – 3-0 LOSS

The Tigers would score two runs in the third and one run in the fifth inning. The Tigers would allow seven Skyhawk hits and shutting them out in game two for the 3-0 victory.

 

Offensive Leaders

Devon Foster – 2 for 3; BB

Tia Coleman – 2 for 3

 

In the Circle

Katelyn Jiles would throw five innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits, giving up one walk and striking out three. Jiles would give way to Chole Mitcham in the sixth inning. Mitcham would throw two innings, giving up no runs on one hit, while walking one batter.

 

The Point Skyhawks will be away this week on Wednesday, February 22 at Tuskegee with the first pitch of the doubleheader at 2:00 P.M.
