Softball announces 2021-22 recruits

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 2, 2021) – Point University softball head coach Jennifer Tyler announced the addition of 11 players for this upcoming season as part of the 2021-22 recruiting class.

The class features Gabrielle Riley, Savanna Bryant, Haley Lyner, Devin Foster, Brianna Plocharczyk, Zada Smith, Audrey Ward, Asia Jones, Mary Burnham, Emma Kilgo and Alyssa Clark.

Gabrielle Riley

Position: Catcher/Infield

Height: 5'5

Hometown: Crestview, Florida

Previous School: Lurleen B Wallace Community College

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .317 batting average, 25 RBI's, nine home runs, All-Area Team, Offensive Hitter of the Year, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and Dean's List.

From Tyler: "Gabby brings a whole lot of offense to the program with some big power numbers. She will compete for a spot behind the plate and throughout the infield, giving us some depth that we have been missing. Gabby is the type of kid that makes us proud to wear a Skyhawks uniform by her athletic ability and her academic achievements."

From Riley: "I chose Point because the coaches made it seem like home, and for my major, it felt like the best place for me to be academically. It also has a lot of familiar faces with previous teammates being there."

Savanna Bryant

Position: Utility

Height: 5'4

Hometown: Valley, Alabama

Previous School: Acts Academy

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: Region champions in basketball. All-Region and All-State for basketball and volleyball.

From Tyler: "Savanna will add to the power and depth in the hitting lineup this year. She will play multiple roles. We are excited to see her grow as she is entering her collegiate career."

From Bryant: "I chose Point because I wanted to stay close to home and go to a small Christian school."

Haley Lyner

Position: Outfield

Height: 5'5

Hometown: Oxford, Alabama

Previous School: Southern Union State Community College

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .397 batting average, 13 home runs, 52 RBI's, 15 stolen bases

From Tyler: "We hit the jackpot with Lyner. She brings speed, power, defense, personality, and experience to this program. I couldn't be more excited to add her skills to our returners and see what she does this year for us in the outfield. Look out for this one because she is going to do big things in a Skyhawks uniform, and we can't wait to watch!"

From Lyner: "I chose Point because I feel like it's a great community and a great school. I like how the staff and coaches made me feel like I was at home when I visited. Everyone was very polite and very helpful. It felt like this is where I was supposed to be."

Devin Foster

Position: Outfield

Height: 5'5

Hometown: Buford, Georgia

Previous School: Andrew College

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: 22 RBI's, 20 stolen bases, .961 fielding percentage

From Tyler: "Devon is coming to us and will bring depth and experience from junior college level to our outfield. We look forward to seeing her make big plays on defense in the grass and offensively bringing speed to the plate and on the base paths."

From Foster: "I really enjoyed the school on my tour and thought it was the best fit to continue my education as well as continue to play softball."

Brianna Plocharczyk

Position: Middle Infield           

Height: 5'2

Hometown: Calera, Alabama

Previous School: Lurleen B Wallace Community College

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .297 batting average, .354 on-base percentage, 16 RBI's, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and Dean's List.

From Tyler: "Bri will be coming in as a middle infielder and is a big pickup for us. She joins many former teammates from her junior college, so she will fit right in. She will bring quick feet and soft hands on defense while also being a solid bat and speed on the basepaths. She will bring great energy to this team, and we are excited to see her in a Skyhawks uniform."

From Plocharczyk: "I chose Point University because the coaches and everyone made me feel at home. Academically, I feel that Point would be the best for me."

Zada Smith

Position: Pitcher/Utility

Height: 5'4

Hometown: Grantville, Georgia

Previous School: Brewton Parker College

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: Three-Time All-Region and All-County

From Tyler: "Zada is transferring to us from Brewton Parker College to be closer to home. She will add depth to our pitching staff with a year of collegiate experience. We are excited to make Zada a part of the Skyhawk softball family."

From Smith: "I Chose Point because it is a lot closer to home, so I can see my family more and spend time with them while going to school and playing softball."

Audrey Ward

Position: Catcher/Outfield

Height: 5'5

Hometown: Douglasville, Georgia

Previous School: Lithia Springs High School

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .471 batting average, .554 on-base percentage, .962 fielding percentage, Lioness Award, The Principal's honor roll all four years.

From Tyler: "Audrey will be joining us this fall as a true freshman and will bring a lot of offense to our lineup. We are anxious to see her in the college environment and think she will have a great career as a Skyhawk."

From Ward: "I picked Point University because I wanted a small school that has a Christian background. Point was my number one school."

Asia Jones

Position: First base/Third base

Height: 5'7

Hometown: Cottonwood, Alabama

Previous School: Wallace Community College-Dothan

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .335 batting average, .614 slugging percentage, 66 hits, 61 runs, 16 doubles, 14 home runs, 41 RBI's, ACCC All-South Team, 2019 &2021, National All-Tournament Team, 2019, Two-Time Dean's List, Second-Team All-Region, 2021.

From Tyler: "We could not be more excited to be adding Asia to our team. She brings extreme power numbers and a lot of experience to our lineup. She will be a big bat in this conference and a tough out. She is a great kid, and we are thrilled she chose us to finish out her stellar career."

From Jones: "I chose Point because of the great atmosphere, the homey feeling, and the positive vibes everyone gave off. The tour reassured me that Point University was the best fit for me."

Mary Burnham

Position: Pitcher

Height: 5'8

Hometown: Wetumpka, Alabama

Previous School: Wallace Community College- Dothan

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: Stats from Wallace: 16-6 record in the circle, .356 batting average, eight home runs.

Stats from Highschool: .70 ERA, 183 strikeouts, 2019 AISA MVP State Tournament, All-County, All-State, All-Metro Team.

From Tyler: "Mary is going to step in and compete in the circle. She brings college experience and a lot of talent to this team, and we are lucky she chose to be a Skyhawk. We are looking forward to seeing her compete within this conference and to see what she can do for this team."

From Burnham: "I chose Point University because of the positive atmosphere that is based on Christian principles and how genuine the people of the school and the softball team were to me."

Emma Kilgo

Position: Pitcher/First base

Height: 5'8

Hometown: Crossville, Alabama  

Previous School: Lurleen B Wallace Community College

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .375 batting average, Dean's List for two years.

From Tyler: "Emma is going to add depth to our bullpen with spin and pitch quality. We are looking forward to seeing her grow and become a dominant pitcher in the conference. She is an all-around student-athlete and we are excited she chose to be a Point University Skyhawk."

From Kilgo: "I chose Point because when I first came for a visit, I felt right at home and there was a connection with the coaches. I knew they would help me grow and improve my skills as a person and as a player. This was a good place for me to complete my degree and to get closer to God."

Alyssa Clark

Position: Catcher

Height: 5'6

Hometown: Montgomery, Alabama

Previous School: Macon East Academy

Statistics/Awards/Accomplishments: .309 batting average, six home runs, player of the week recognition

From Tyler: "Alyssa is a great addition to the program. She is a great kid and brings great talent to the field, along with some power with the bat. We look forward to watching Alyssa begin her collegiate career with us and see what she can do in a Skyhawk uniform.

From Clark: "I chose Point because it makes me feel close to home. I love the school and feel like it is a great place to further my education.
