Point welcomes Caleb Albrecht as cross country/distance track head coach

WEST POINT, Ga. (July 28, 2021) – Point University has hired Caleb Albrecht to serve as head coach of the cross country/distance track program. Albrecht joins the Point athletics staff after spending the past spring season as an assistant coach at the University of Lynchburg, where he helped coach three members of the program to All-American status.

"We are excited to welcome Caleb Albrecht to the Point Community," said Athletic Director Alan Wilson. "With his work ethic and enthusiasm, we feel Caleb will do an outstanding job with our Cross Country/Distance Track program. He has been associated with some top-notch programs and will bring that knowledge and experience to Point. Caleb has a bright future and will be instrumental in helping our athletes reach their full potential."

Albrecht, a native of Franklin, N.C., graduated from Western Carolina University in 2019 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Sports Marketing. He was a member of WCU's cross country and track program and helped the men's team win eight Southern Conference Championships between indoor and outdoor track season, setting a school record for most consecutive conference championships. Individually, Albrecht was a two-time conference bronze medalist in the 800m and was a five-time All-Conference recipient.

In 2018 while a student at WCU, Albrecht assisted with Franklin High School's (his former high school) men's cross country program. During his time at Franklin, the men's team dropped their time by 12 minutes and went from being ranked ninth in the region to finishing runner-up at regionals and qualifying for the state championships.

After graduating from Western, Albrecht was hired as an assistant coach at Montreat College for the 2019-20 season. During his stint at Montreat, the men's team finished the cross country season as the Appalachian Athletic Conference runners-up and finished the 2019 NAIA Cross Country National Championships in 27th place. On the women's side, the program had one individual national qualifier who earned All-American status. During indoor track season, the men's team won the AAC Championship.

Along with coaching three All-Americans at the University of Lynchburg this past spring, Albrecht helped guide both the men's and women's teams to several conference titles, and the program finished the season with five NCAA Division III Outdoor Track National Qualifiers.

"I am beyond blessed and excited to be stepping into this role," Albrecht said. "There's a lot to be excited about with the cross country program. We want to establish a winning culture and bring honor to God through the program, and Point University is the place for that to happen."
