Track and Field finishes the season with major upsides

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. (Apr. 22, 2023)- The Point University Track and Field team took their talents to North Carolina for the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships at Pulliam Stadium in Black Mountain for the two-day event, and there were many positives to take away from it. 

Day One

Day one started with Andrew Howe and Sanjuan Warner in the Javelin throw. Howe came into the event ranked 14th, and after tossing an almost 2-meter PR, he earned 7th place and scored the Skyhawks men its first set of points of the meet, with a distance of 41.83. 

Warner was not far behind, placing 10th. Both returned to the discus on day two: Warner placing 10th and Howe 16th.  

  

Up next was the women's 4x100m relay. The team comprised of Kyah Campbell, Christyauna Beasley, Ashley Bowden, and Chazmere Anderson finished 5th overall, scoring the first points for the Skyhawks women and setting and new school record in the event with a time of 54.85 

Less than thirty minutes later, the women's 4x800 relay team of Anna Brown, Nolwenn Blain, Linda Schiller, and Ashley Bowden placed 6th overall and also set a new school record in the time of 11:23.14 

Javien Leeks ran a new personal record, broke his school record, and earned a hard-fought 5th place in the 400m dash with a time of 49.29 

Day Two 

Day two started with Point's first-ever 5k racewalker, freshman Brett Vanleuven, coming in 4th with a time of 31:45.74. His time puts him at #24 in the nation.  

Josh Beam earned the Skyhawks some more points as he placed 4th place in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 10:18.74.  

  

De'Andre Wade ran a new PR and broke his school record in the 200 with a time of 22.38, scoring points and placing 7th.  

In the meet's final event, the men's 4x400m relay, made up of Isaac Jones, Ian Dougherty, Quinn Vega, and Javien Leeks, placed 8th and broke the previous school record by 9 seconds with a time of 3:30.15. 

  

In the women's 4x400 relay: Campbell, Brown, Beasley, and Bowden placed 7th and broke the previous school record by 19 seconds.  

  

Both the men's and women's teams placed 9th and scored the most points the Skyhawks have ever scored at the Outdoor AAC Championship Meet.
