Distance track releases 2022 spring schedule

WEST POINT, Ga. (Jan. 14, 2022) – The Point University men's and women's distance track teams released their 2022 schedule on Friday. The Skyhawks compete in eight meets beginning Feb. 4-5.

First-year head coach Caleb Albrecht is looking forward to motivating his athletes to obtain their goals while competing against high-caliber competition.

"The mindset I want for the team this season is to be the best we can be," Albrecht said. "Doing the little things right will add up to the success they want. Some races won't be their best result, everyone has bad days, but it's about how they need to compete to the best of their ability each day."

Point will begin their season by competing in the Camel City Invitational, hosted at the JDL Fast Track, one of the most elite indoor tracks in the southeast. The Skyhawks' final meet of the spring will be the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Milligan University.

"These meets will allow us to compete against some top-tier competition, both in the NAIA and NCAA," Albrecht said. "We'll get to match up against some of the best and see what areas we can get better at. Some of the meets I am looking forward to the most would be our first meet, Camel City Invite. We'll get to see several Power 5 schools, as well as former and current Olympians, take the track. And of course, I am looking forward to our Conference Championship meet. It'll be great seeing how far we've come and see us stack up against our conference."

Albrecht's hopes for his athletes this spring are for them to achieve the goals they have put in place for themselves and help motivate them to obtain their goals.

"Some members of my team have time goals, some have placement goals at conference, and some have their mindset on qualifying for nationals," Albrecht said. "While the overall team goal is to move up in the conference standings and be a presence wherever we compete, their individual goals is what I want them to achieve. If they achieve them, then everything will end up exactly where we want it to be."
