William Riley takes over tennis programs

WEST POINT, Ga. (Aug. 24, 2022) – Point University has hired William Riley to serve as head coach for the men's and women's tennis teams. Riley joins the Point athletics staff with over 30 years of experience at the NAIA and NCAA levels.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach William Riley to the Skyhawk family!" Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Jaunelle White shared. "Coach Riley has over 30 years of experience coaching intercollegiate tennis in the NCAA and NAIA. Our student-athletes are blessed to have this man of God guiding them spiritually and athletically."

Riley is an active member of the American Tennis Association and United States Tennis Association and comes to Point with a long and distinguished career. He started his career at Stillman College (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), where he served as the Associate Athletic Director and Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach for 23 years. At Stillman, Riley compiled an impressive combined 818-316 record. In addition, his men's and women's teams won five combined conference titles, while Riley was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Coach of the Year five times.

After Stillman, Riley became the Assistant Athletic Director/Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Coppin State University (Baltimore, Md.) for three years. He made one-year stops at Clark Atlanta University (Ga.), and Bethel College (Newton, Kan.), before spending the last three years at Brescia University (Owensboro, Ky.).

Riley graduated from Stillman College with a B.A. in communications and physical education. He was a member of the tennis team at Stillman and was named Player of the Year in 1992 and 1993. He received an M.S. in Coaching and Exercise Science and an M.A. in Coaching and Athletic Administration, both from Concordia University (Irvine, Calif.)
