Men’s Soccer unable to secure second-half comeback against #8 William Carey

WEST POINT, Ga. (Sept. 17, 2023) - The Point University Men's Soccer team returned to action for an afternoon matchup at the River Bowl Stadium against the #8 ranked William Carey University, where the Skyhawks dropped the matchup 7-3.

The Crusaders jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal in the first eight minutes to take the lead 1-0. Point looked to get their offense going, but William Carey's defense would not allow the Skyhawks to even it. As the half continued, the Crusaders elevated their offense to another level by adding two more scores to lead 3-0. As the half neared its end, Point would fall to a 4-0 deficit to go into the half looking to regroup.

The second half saw the Skyhawks take the field with a different mindset of competing until the final whistle started, with Tommy Eskew scoring the first goal to bring the score to 4-1. William Carey slowed Point's offense by extending their lead to six as William Carey added three more goals. The Skyhawks came together not to allow another score from William Carey, which caused their momentum to pick up on offense. The Corner Kick from Brandon Cervantes set up the beautiful assist from Diogo Soucasaux as Point scored their second goal from Diogo Palhoto. The Skyhawks continued to look for more answers on the offensive end, which found success when Diogo Soucasaux added another assist by connecting with Brandon Cervantes for the goal to bring the score to 7-3. As the half continued, Cervantes almost brought Point's deficit to three, but the ball would hit the crossbar. The Skyhawks would be unable to complete the comeback to fall to the Crusaders.
