Leguizamon wins Player of the Year; Delvecchio named to All-AAC second team

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 11, 2021) – Sophomore Jeronimo Leguizamon earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Golden Boot honors, and senior Lorenzo Delvecchio made All-AAC second team to headline postseason recognition of the Point University men's soccer team.

The AAC announced the awards Thursday afternoon.

Leguizamon's staggering numbers leads to highest honor

Leguizamon finished the regular season with 22 goals (19 in AAC play), 100 shots in AAC play, and five game-winning goals. Leguizamon had six multigoal games, two hat tricks and broke the school record for most goals scored in a single game, with five goals scored in Point's victory over Johnson (Tenn.).

He played and started in all 13 conference games and accounted for 40 points.

Leguizamon is No. 1 in the nation in three categories, goals (24), points (51), and shots (120).

Along with earning the Player of the Year and Golden Boot titles, Leguizamon also was named to the All-AAC first team.

Delvecchio's recognition

Delvecchio made the All-AAC second team for the second time in his career (2020). Delvecchio served as team captain and helped guide Point's midfield. The senior finished the regular season with one goal, two assists, and 22 shots taken. Delvecchio's lone goal of the season was the game-winning goal against Johnson (Tenn.).

Skyhawks prepare for AAC tournament championship

The men's soccer team will continue its postseason battle as they travel to Tennessee Wesleyan tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 12, and face the Bulldogs in the AAC Tournament Championship. The winning team will advance to the NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Athens, Tenn.
