Men’s soccer travels to Reinhardt to open AAC tournament play

WEST POINT, Ga. (Nov. 5, 2021) – Led by the reigning NAIA offensive player of the week, Jeronimo Leguizamon, the Point University men's soccer team kicks off Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament play Friday night as they travel to Reinhardt University.

Point is the No. 6 seed entering postseason play, and the Eagles are the No. 3 seed. Eight teams in the AAC made it to postseason play. CIU won the regular season and is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Milligan. Tennessee Wesleyan enters as the No. 4 seed and is followed by No. 5 Union. Montreat checked in at No. 7 and St. Andrews at No. 8. The quarterfinal round takes place today, Nov. 5, with the semifinal round happening on Nov. 9 and the championship game on Friday, Nov. 12.

Point has been led this season by Leguizamon, who is No. 1 in the AAC in goals scored (22), points (47), and shots taken (112). In the NAIA standings, Leguizamon is No. 1 in the nation in goals scored and shots taken and No. 2 in points. Pablo Sanz Deiz leads the team with nine assists in offensive efforts and is No. 6 in the AAC in assists. On defense, Point has been led by Julio Gomes, who currently is No. 5 in the AAC in save percentage (.791), goals against (14) and goals-against average (1.01).

The Skyhawks enter postseason play 9-5-1 and 8-5 in the AAC. The Skyhawks finished the regular season on a four-game win streak. Most notably this season, Point defeated then-ranked No. 9 Milligan 2-1 in double overtime.

Point will be looking for redemption in Friday night's match, as the Skyhawks fell to Reinhardt in the regular-season 2-1 in overtime.
