Thomas Van Alstine and Teagan Simons earns AAC Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week Honors

WEST POINT, Ga. (Apr. 1, 2024) - The Appalachian Athletic Conference announced Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honors on Monday, April 1st. The Point Men’s Lacrosse program made a clean sweep of awards as Thomas Van Alstine and Teagan Simons were named AAC Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week. Thomas Van Alstine’s 10 goals versus Montreat was enough to secure the Offensive Player of the Week award and Teagan Simon’s 20 Saves versus Montreat was enough to earn the Defensive Player of the Week award.

Saturday, March 30th served as Senior Day for the Men’s Lacrosse team with Seven Seniors being honored. Thomas Van Alstine and Teagan Simons were two of the seven who honored and made the day count in front of their loved ones. Thomas Van Alstine led the Skyhawks on the offensive end with 10 goals and one assist. Van Alstine had six goals at halftime with Point leading 11-2. Van Alstine’s attitude was to continue playing no matter the score and he followed with four goals in the second half for a total of 10. Teagan Simons added a stat line of 20 saves and eight groundballs against the Cavaliers. Simons’ leadership on defense has made life easier for the Skyhawks as he consistently strives to keep the opposing offenses from scoring along with his willingness to eliminate second-chance shots. Simons and Van Alstine have made strides as leaders on the Men’s Lacrosse team by leading by example. The Skyhawks currently sit at 6-7 (2-4 AAC) which is the most wins in a season since the 2018-19 season and the most wins in a season in the Jordan Coates era. With the voices of Simons and Van Alstine, it has made life easier for Coach Coates to see his players blossoming and improving each game. This is the first weekly honor for both players and the first weekly honor for the program since the 2018-19 season.
