Men’s Lacrosse clinches Postseason berth with a win over Life University

MARIETTA, Ga. (Apr. 17, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to the field for their final regular season game in Marietta, Georgia for an evening Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against (RV) Life University. This game served as a must-win for Point University as the winner would clinch the playoffs. 

The Running Eagles held the momentum in the early going as Life University held the Skyhawks scoreless in the first quarter while adding a 3-0 lead. As the Running Eagles opened the second quarter with another score, Thomas Van Alstine caught fire as he scored the following three goals for the Skyhawks to cut the Life University lead to 4-3. The Running Eagles ended the first half with two more goals to go into the break with a 6-3 lead. Life continued putting pressure on Point's defense by opening the third quarter with two more scores to increase the lead to five. Point did not show any quit as Thomas Van Alstine followed with two goals to bring the Running Eagles' lead to 8-5. Life scored their last goal of the quarter with hopes of carrying their momentum to the final period of play. Malyke Sillers ended the quarter with a score as Point trailed 9-6 going into the fourth quarter. Sillers proved that the moment was not too big as he scored the following four goals to wipe away Life's lead and put ahead. The Skyhawks' defense came together not allowing Life University to go back and forth offensively forcing a fourth-quarter shutout. To put the final touches on the game, Thomas Van Alstine scored one last goal to give the Skyhawks the win with a final score of 11-9.

Thomas Van Alstine led with six goals, two groundballs, and one caused turnover. Malyke Sillers followed with five scored goals, one groundball, and one caused turnover. In goal, Teagan Simons secured 11 saves on the evening. 

Historic Mark 

Coming into the game, Point University and Life University held a tiebreaker meaning the winner of the contest earned a postseason berth. The win over the Running Eagles marked the first time since 2017 for the Skyhawks to make the playoffs and the first time in the Jordan Coates era.

The Skyhawks will enter the postseason to take on Webber International in the AAC Tournament. The date and time will be announced by the conference.
