Men’s Lacrosse takes care of business against Montreat for a Senior Day Win

WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 30, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse Team returned to the field for an afternoon Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against Montreat College where the Skyhawks surged past the Cavaliers with a final score of 21-5. 

Montreat opened the first quarter with their first goal of the game to take the lead, hoping to spoil Point's Senior Day. The Skyhawks did not take long to respond on the offensive end as Jeff Knapp used his strength to push through the Cavalier defense to tie the game at one apiece. Thomas Van Alstine followed with three consecutive goals to put the Skyhawks ahead with a score of 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. Jeff Knapp and Thomas Van Alstine took turns in the second quarter putting pressure on Montreat's defense as the Skyhawks added seven scores to lead 11-2 at halftime. The second half opened with Point continuing their offensive firepower with more players getting involved in the action. Aaron Mordarski and Shaun McLaughlin opened the half with the first two scores to increase the lead to 13-2. Point's defense was a major factor in the third quarter as the Cavaliers were unable to add a score and were unable to get a shot past Teagan Simons in goal. Jeff Knapp and Shaun McLaughlin ended the third quarter with Point's lead jumping to 16-2. Montreat ended their scoring drought as the Cavaliers opened the fourth quarter with a goal. The Skyhawks responded with Thomas Van Alstine continuing his hot day with two consecutive goals. Djuan Toomer entered the fray and created a moment that will not be forgotten as he scored his first collegiate goal in front of Skyhawk fans to keep Point in the lead. Thomas Van Alstine and Jeff Knapp ended the day with two more goals as Point took the win with a final score of 21-5. 

In the Box 

Thomas Van Alstine led with 10 goals and one assist. Jeff Knapp followed with seven goals, 11 groundballs, and 14 faceoff wins. Shaun McLaughlin added two goals and Aaron Mordarski along with Djuan Toomer added one goal.

The Skyhawks will return to action for a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division III, Warren Wilson College on Thursday, April 4th at 4:00 P.M. Eastern.
