Men’s Lacrosse looking to finish March on a strong note

WEST POINT, Ga. (Mar. 18, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse Team is looking to continue its momentum of playing hard and giving teams a hard time on the field as the Skyhawks are slated to finish the month of March with one nonconference matchup against Warren Wilson and two Appalachian Athletic Conference matchups against University of the Cumberlands and Montreat College.

The Men's Lacrosse team recently picked up their third win against Centenary College with a final score of 13-5 which showed an all-around performance from the Skyhawks. Shaun Mclaughlin led with five goals, two groundballs, and one assist. Jeff Knapp followed with three goals, 18 faceoff wins, three assists, seven groundballs, and two caused turnovers. The all-around performance continued with Aaron Mordarski adding three goals and one caused turnover. Jamison Cross felt the heat as well as he contributed two scored goals and three groundballs. Point is looking to build off of Saturday's win with a home matchup against Warren Wilson College on Tuesday, March 19th starting at 5:00 P.M. Eastern Time. The week of action will continue as the Skyhawks travel to the Bluegrass State of Kentucky to take on #5 University of the Cumberlands. The Patriots currently sit at 7-1 overall and 3-1 in AAC Play which puts them at fourth place. Point is currently 3-6 overall and 0-3 in AAC Play while sitting in eighth place. For the Skyhawks, adding a win against a top-10-ranked team could instill more confidence for Point to compete against any team. After a matchup against the Patriots, the Skyhawks return to River Bowl Stadium on Saturday, March 30th against AAC opponent, Montreat College. This day will also serve as Senior Day for the Skyhawks with the game starting at 1:00 P.M. Eastern Time. The last time the two teams faced each other was April 8th, 2023 when the Skyhawks defeated the Cavaliers with a final score of 15-13. Point is not a team that looks at previous victories and will look to move forward to play with more intensity. With Point sitting at three wins, the Skyhawks could end move adding their most wins in a season since the 2018-19 season (4-14). Although there is much upside for the program, Head Coach Jordan Coates has emphasized to his players that the approach must be taken one game at a time. The Skyhawks will look to finish the month of March with extra motivation to keep pushing forward which can help continue to push their play in the right direction in April.
