Men’s Lacrosse splits the weekend on the road

BABSON PARK, Fla. (Mar. 3, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to the field for non-conference matchups with Webber International University and the University of Saint Mary. The Skyhawks fell to the Warriors with a final score of 22-3 and took the win over Spires with a final score of 17-4. 

Friday vs. Webber International (22-3, Loss) 

The Skyhawks started the game by tying the Warriors at 1-1 as Jamison Cross responded to an early goal from Webber. The Warriors insisted on scoring the following five goals to end the first period with a 6-1 lead. Webber continued to climb above the Skyhawks in the second period as the Warriors entered double-digit scoring by adding four more goals. Jeff Knapp did not let Point end the quarter without scoring as he would add the second goal of the game for the Skyhawks. The Warriors continued to keep their momentum going as Webber added seven goals in the third quarter to keep their lead out of reach for the Skyhawks. Jeff Knapp added his second goal of the game to give Point their final score of the game. The fourth quarter was all Webber as the Warriors added five more goals to end the game with a final score of 22-3. 

Sunday vs. Saint Mary (17-4, Win) 

The Skyhawks came into the neutral site game with a mindset of adding dominance on the offensive end which was put on display in the first quarter. Aaron Mordarski opened the scoring column for the Skyhawks by scoring the first goal to put Point in the lead. Thomas Van Alstine and Jeff Knapp followed with two goals each in the first period to extend Point's lead to 5-0 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter continued to see the Skyhawks have a fiery game on offense as Lonnie Flores Jr. Joined the fun with his first goal of the game to push the Skyhawks ahead by six. Aaron Mordarski, Thomas Van Alstine, and Jeff Knapp each picked up where they left off by adding multiple goals to end the first half leading 13-2. The third quarter saw Mitchell Gossett add his first goal of the season to keep the Skyhawks in front. The final goals of the game would come from Jeff Knapp, Thomas Van Alstine, and Jack Koenn as the Skyhawks ended the game getting their first win of the season with a final score of 17-4.

The Skyhawks will return to action with a quick trip to Montgomery, Alabama for a nonconference matchup with NCAA Division III, Huntingdon College on Wednesday, March 6th starting at 4:00 P.M.
