Men’s Lacrosse falls short in second half comeback against SCAD Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (Feb. 28, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to the field for a road Appalachian Athletic Conference matchup against SCAD Savannah where the Skyhawks fell to the Bees with a final score of 9-8. 

The first quarter opened the Skyhawks falling to a 4-0 lead from the Bees as SCAD Savannah got their offense going early. Thomas Van Alstine opened the second quarter with a mindset to get his team going which showed as he scored the first goal for the Skyhawks. The Bees responded with a goal of their own to extend the lead to 5-1. Before the half closed, Thomas Van Alstine added his second goal of the game which brought the score to 5-2 at the half. Point came into the second half on a different level on the offensive end which was put on display as the first 56 seconds saw Thomas Van Alstine add his third scored goal of the game. The Bees were able to keep the lead in their possession with two goals but would be unable to match the intensity of Point in this quarter. Malyke Sillers and Thomas Van Alstine were able to bring Point's deficit closer with multiple goals. Sillers added three scored goals in the quarter and Van Alstine added two scored goals. The fiery torch of Point's offense would bring the game to 7-7 as both teams approached the fourth quarter. Point took their first lead of the game as Jeff Knapp added a goal for the Skyhawks to lead 8-7. SCAD Savannah shook off the rust and added two goals to regain the lead by one and halted Point from adding more steam. As a result of that, the Bees held on to win 9-8 in the AAC Thriller. 

In the Box 

Thomas Van Alstine led with four scored goals and was followed by Malyke Sillers adding goals. Jeff Knapp followed with one goal on the offensive side. In goal, Teagan Simons added 13 saves for the Skyhawks.

Point returns to action for a road matchup at against Webber International on Friday, March 1st, and will follow with their second weekend matchup on Sunday, March 3rd with a neutral site matchup against Saint Mary.
