Men’s Lacrosse drops road matchup to Oglethorpe

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. (Feb. 21, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to the field for a non-conference matchup against Oglethorpe University where the Skyhawks fell to the Stormy Petrels with a final score of 12-6. 

The Skyhawks opened the first period with the first goal of the game as Thomas Van Alstine put Point ahead 1-0. Oglethorpe responded by adding two goals ahead of Point which helped put the Stormy Petrels ahead 2-1. The game stayed with Oglethorpe leading as both teams went into the second period. The Stormy Petrels added more pressure to Point's defense by adding three consecutive goals to extend the lead to 5-1. The Skyhawks did not go down without a fight as Thomas Van Alstine scored the Skyhawks' second goal of the game. Oglethorpe finished the first half by not allowing a third goal from Point and held the lead at 5-2 at the half. 

The second half opened with the Stormy Petrels continuing to add steam on the offensive end as Oglethrope added three more goals to increase the lead to six. Thomas Van Alstine completed a hat trick by scoring his third goal of the game to end the third quarter with the Skyhawks trailing 8-3. Point cut into the lead with Thomas Van Alstine adding his fourth goal of the game. As the Skyhawks looked to cut into the lead from Oglethorpe more, the Stormy Petrels tacked on four more goals. Point finished with Malyke Sillers and Thomas Van Alstine scoring but the Skyhawks dropped the matchup with a final score of 12-6.  

In the Box 

Thomas Van Alstine led the team in scoring with five goals and Malyke Sillers followed with one goal. In goal, Teagan Simons added 12 Saves as the goalie.
