Men’s Lacrosse falls to Lagrange in crosstown matchup

WEST POINT, Ga. (Feb. 14, 2024) - The Point University Men's Lacrosse team returned to the field for a non-conference matchup against NCAA Division III, Lagrange College where the tight matchup saw the Panthers take the win 17-12. 

The first period opened the with Panthers taking the first goal at the 13:42 mark to lead 1-0. Shaun McLaughlin and Aaron Mordarski charged back with two consecutive goals to put Point in the lead with the score being 2-1. Lagrange ended the first period on a 4-0 run to lead 5-2 going into the second quarter. 

Jeff Knapp opened the period with a scored goal to see both opponents trade multiple goals with the Panthers still ahead. Shaun McLaughlin and Jeff Knapp kept the offense going for Point as the following two scores from the pair. Lagrange would end the period by making a statement adding two goals to lead 10-6 at the half. The third quarter saw the Skyhawks wake up on the offensive end as Jeremiah Menzies opened the scoring column with the first goal of the period. The Panthers were able to keep the lead by adding two more goals but could not match the momentum as Jeff Knapp rallied the following three scores for Point and Thomas Val Alstine ended the third quarter with Point trailing 12-11.  

Lagrange regained the momentum in the final period of play by starting the quarter on a 4-0 run to stretch their lead further away from the Skyhawks. Thomas Val Alstine added his second goal of the game to see Point trailing 16-12 with 4:13 left in the game. The Panthers were able to hold the Skyhawks to zero points for the rest of the game and added one more goal to finish with a 17-12 over Point. 

In the Box 

Jeff Knapp led with five scored goals and added 13 groundballs on the evening. Shaun McLaughlin added three goals off six shots on goal. Thomas Val Alstine contributed with two goals for Point. In goal, Teagan Simons added 18 saves for the Skyhawks.
